Following our boat ride, we went to the Oriental Hotel's travel office to book a tour to the ancient city of Ayutthaya (pronounced Ah-yu-tee-ah), 1,600 baht ($37) each. The Oriental is a beautiful, gracious hotel filled with history -- opulent, but not glitzy. There were lots of hotel personnel waiting for an opportunity to serve their guests. The hotel staff here, as well as at our hotel, were beautifully dressed in silk uniforms representative of the country.
