Comments on the cuisine:

Someone on the bulletin board recommended La Casa di Sergio (20, rue de l'Exposition), an Italian restaurant.  It's a tiny place, probably the size of our hotel room.  It states on the menu, "Recommended by Rick Steves."  Hmmm -- is that good or bad?  In this case, it was good, and a pleasant evening was had by all.  www.lacasadisergio.com
The other two nights we had dinner at Chez Clement on the Champs Elysees (a chain restaurant).  They are open all day, so we were able to have dinner early one evening.  The food was good -- not gourmet, but good.  Each evening I ordered the same starter of fruit and sorbet.  There was something quite wonderful about the melon both here and at our hotel.
